Today I was let down a whole lot. I was really looking forward to this gathering, but the whole thing was amateurish and not very inspiring. I mean, it was like 200 people attending (even a dozen that didn’t even get in), and that’s a big figure for an “indie” event like this. So then you would expect some great things to happen, but no. And the place was horrible, cold and noisy.
Going there i damned myself for forgetting some paper to write on. I wanted to mingle with lots of people, take numbers and get got info about ANYTHING good related to business in Greece. But in hindsight, i unconsciously acted wisely.

What I didn’t like about it? Well, to be honest I only knew about these gatherings (in other contries) by having read about it, so my expectations were maybe a bit too high.
But three main things:
1. I missed the sense of being surrounded by entrepreneurs, developers and investors! It was mainly guys in their fourties and above sitting calmly and applauding things that were not worth applauses.
2. The people on stage were simply disapointing. Nothing intruiging was said, quite the contrary it was pretty lame. First a guy presenting his projects that was almost done, but I mean, he left the stage showered with wondering minds about who and how could anyone use his service. Then there was an old man offering his experince as a mentor. That’s honourable, but i fell asleep. Then a horrible comercial during half an hour from SUN, my god. And after that: emarket.gr, that just made a rundown of their business, not much insight, no fun disclosures. After this I left, I had enouch. I hade expected great interaction and discussions and a feeling of wow!
3. My final disgruntlement was with the location. As I wrote in the post, noisy and cold. And the the PA was in such a terrible shape that EVERY speaker lost the audiance the first 5min because nobody heard what was said.
I’m aware I do sound sour as hell, but that was precious time for me, my evening was wasted. And even more so when you ride on high expectations..
You are right about the venue being cold and noisy. And you are probably right about the presentations not being very inspiring. But I think you are a bit too hasty dismissing the whole thing, especially having visited only 1 event. I have been to quite a few in the past couple of months and have seen some very interesting insightful presentations, but more importantly, have been able to mingle with some great people after the event and exchange business cards, ideas and insights. I think you should give it another go when the presentations are bit better and when the venue gets sorted out.
